13 Awesome Things To Do In Sydney This Weekend

 

If you’re still suffering the post-long-weekend blues, we get it. It’s hard psyching yourself up for a measly two-day weekend again but seriously, we’ve got your back. We’re here to help you have a cracking good time and yes, we’re talking about food. This weekend, Sydney is all about truffles, markets and feasting. 

Here is every good thing you can do in Sydney this weekend.

TRUFFLES AT THE THREE WILLIAMS 

PSA: It’s officially truffle season! That means Three Williams is launching a new ‘Celebrating Truffle’ menu that’s jam-packed full of the good stuff, and guys, we’re excited. The truffle menu will sit alongside their usual (delish) café menu throughout the season making the perfect brunch for you and your hungry tum. We suggest you try the crunchy waffle fries or opt for Chef Jacquie Ektoros’ favourite, the mandarin and honey crumpet—made in-house, of course. You can’t go wrong no matter what you choose.

THE STREETS OF BARANGAROO SALE

Hold on to your credit cards team, a huge sale is taking over Barangaroo and yep, this is your chance to invest in some discount designer threads. Running from this Friday through to Monday, a selection of boutiques will be slashing prices in a big way. Think Kenzo menswear from BELANCÉ for up to 40% off, gifts, homewares and fashion from Collector Store, Hansen and Gretel for 30% off at Somedays and all the luxe goods from The Standard Store.

CLIENT LIAISON DELUXE LINE POP-UP

After making their runway debut in May at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Client Liaison’s luxe line ‘Champagne Affection’ is hitting stores this weekend. The leisurewear (apparently a thing?) line will be sold exclusively through pop-up stores in Sydney, Melbourne and online and the Sydney one is popping up all weekend long. The collection is inspired by late lunches (so basically, it’s us in a fashion line) and Australian native Flora and Fauna. To check out the line, head here.

GARDEN LIFE WINTER PLANT SALE

Garden life, AKA one of the biggest and best plant stores in Sydney, is holding a HUGE winter plant sale this weekend and you know you want to get amongst it. LIVE MUSIC AT SMOKE BAR

If you haven’t hit up Barangaroo House down at Barangaroo (duh) yet, then have you even really done Sydney? Well, now is the time people. Every Thursday and Friday, Smoke Bar is hosting live music with artists like Veda (Triple J Unearthed), Murray Lake and Andrew Grant throughout June. And that’s just the beginning. We suggest you book your seat because there’s nothing worse than rocking up for harbour-side espresso martinis and live music only to be turned away. Book here.

FOLONOMO POP-UP CHEF SERIES

Sydney’s first profit-for-purpose restaurant, Folonomo, is launching their pop-up chef series this week and that means you can stuff yourself silly while supporting local charities. Sounds good, no? The series will be happening over four consecutive Thursdays this month and it’ll feature some of Australia’s most innovative chefs and winemakers, and like we said, all proceeds will go to charity. Fritto and Co Chefs, Josh and Nic Sama (you might recognise them from MKR) will be kicking things off on opening night and you can still book here.

Friday 15 June

SYDNEY’S BIGGEST MEAT-FREE BBQ

If you’re in the depths of World Meat Free Week and would basically gnaw off your own arm just get some meat into you, listen in. MasterChef legend, Callum Hann is hosting Sydney’s biggest Meatless BBQ. Head down to Wynyard Park this Friday to sample a range of BBQ favourites—none of which involve meat. REFUGEE WEEK LAUNCH

Refugee Week is kicking off in Sydney this Friday and it’s your chance to celebrate the brave refugees who’ve made huge contributions to Australia. The event, hosted by youth representative and former refugee, Simon Shahin, will see you listening to a keynote speech from leading orthopaedic surgeon, former refugee and Refugee Week Ambassador, Munjed Al Muderis. TEDXSYDNEY LIVE AT THE CALYX 

Couldn’t get tickets to TEDxSydney? Don’t worry, just head to The Calyx in the Royal Botanic Gardens and watch the live stream instead. The best part is, it’s absolutely free which means you’ve got more cash for post-talk cocktails. PURPLE SNEAKERS 12TH BIRTHDAY

Purple Sneakers turns twelve this year, and to celebrate they’re taking over the Lansdowne Hotel and throwing the birthday bash to end all birthday bashes. Happening as part of Vivid, this party will have you dancing till dawn and partying like it’s 2008. The line-up includes Alta, Annie Bass, Clypso, Rainbow Chan, Slim Set, Sandro Dallarmi and the Purple Sneakers DJs to name only a few, and you can grab your tickets here

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS—CORNERSMITH WORKSHOP

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade right? Well kind of. Cornersmith’s Alex Elliott-Howery will show you that when it comes to lemons, you can make a whole lot more than just lemonade. At this workshop you’ll learn how to use the whole fruit to make a range of sweet and savoury preserves like Indian lemon pickle, sweet lemon jam and her famous Lemoncello. THE MAKERS’ NEST

This weekend, Tramsheds is hosting the bi-annual The Makers Nest Design Market. This one is all about local artisan creators and has been carefully curated so that only makers who design and create in Australia are showcased. PIGGYBACK SUNDAYS AT CHIN CHIN
