Eight interior trends to try in autumn

As autumn approaches, so does the need for a fresh update. These eight trends (big, small and in-between) will provide a switch in palette, making way for the cooler months ahead. Sure, a complete paint job might be
out of the question, but we’re guessing you can find some way to revitalise for the season.

Double up

Matchy-matchy might be trending on the runway, and mono-colour design taking hold in restaurants
and hotels the world over, but for something unexpected, try synchronising your art. By grouping the same
series on a single wall, the effect is like a chic, removable version of wallpaper—voila! Instant update (and a chance to buy more art, obviously).

The new navy

By mixing navy with other earthy colours—think deep chocolate browns, light hazelnuts and
creamy whites—blue’s summery vibe is subdued, a mood which is ideal for those cooler weather months.

Paint it black

Sure, white floors have had a moment (which is definitely still going), but for a decidedly alternative style,
try painting them black. Go for texture with paint over floorboards, polished marble or stained concrete,
all of which make for an interesting addition to the overall feel of a home. Be warned, however, this isn’t for
everyone—so make the switch to the dark side only with the utmost certainty.

Branches before bouquets

Spring and summer’s bright blooms are over but greenery never really tires. Make the most of the autumnal
branches by displaying them in your home this season—deep reds, purples and yellowy-greens are encouraged.

Luxe life

Transport yourself back to the golden age by incorporating Art Deco-inspired gilded detailing into the rooms of your home. Be inspired by the likes of Kelly Wearstler with bronze statues, rich wallpapers and decadent fabrics.

Sunny day styling

Ultra Violet might be the official Pantone Colour of the Year, but marigold-hued, golden yellow is having a moment too (at least in our books). Although the sunshine might be waning and the days shortening, don’t let your home’s interiors go down with the sun. Employ the use of this bright (yet somehow muted) shade in rooms that need a little oomph.

Neon is back

We know what you’re thinking—don’t let it be true. But if recent runways, furniture fairs and lifestyle trends are
anything to go by, this bright ’80s trend is making a comeback— slowly but surely. For the adventurous among us,take a hold of the concept by erring on the side of caution. Our tip? Display small accessories surrounded by
understated neutrals and simple prints to ensure the focal point of the room isn’t completely overridden.

Lights, action

Our fascination with industrial-style lighting hasn’t gone anywhere in 2018, with designers like Lindsey Adelman
and Tom Dixon taking the exposed bulb trend and reworking it. The result? Fluid, dreamy shades that read less
like lightbulbs and more like sculptures—but pared back, industrial-style. Naturally.
